The opening of Bega’s Biggah Garden, celebrating local Aboriginal cultural heritage, will be held on Friday 8 September 2017 from 3:30 – 5:30pm in Littleton Gardens, Bega.

The afternoon’s activities include a cooking demonstration with Mark Olive, famous chef from Black Olive, performances by local Aboriginal dancers, SCPA Markets (a twilight market instead of a morning market just for this day) and the Heritage Near Me virtual reality experience.

The Biggah Garden Project will educate community members and visitors about the Aboriginal Cultural heritage of the Bega area, derived from local Aboriginal language word “Biggah” meaning meeting place. The garden will showcase local bush foods and plants of significance. The garden bed is circular and represents the Bunaarn (ceremonial) rings located on farm lands around Bega.
