From iconic paddock trees to towering forest giants, the Far South Coast is home to some truly remarkable trees. Many have stood watch over our landscapes for generations, providing shade, habitat, and a living connection to the history of our properties and communities.

South East Local Land Services is inviting landholders across the region to enter the South East Big Tree Challenge, celebrating the largest, most impressive, and most memorable trees found throughout south-eastern NSW.

This is a great opportunity for Far South Coast landholders to showcase the outstanding trees that make our region unique. Whether it’s a giant old paddock eucalypt, a spectacular river tree, or a tree with a story that has been shared across generations, we’d love to see it entered.

We’re encouraging Conservation Management Network members to get involved and help ensure the Far South Coast is well represented in the competition. Winners will receive a picnic hamper featuring quality local produce, perfect for enjoying beneath their favourite tree.Entries will be judged by the South East NRM team, with awards presented in the following categories:

• Widest tree
• Most impressive growth form
• Best big tree story

Entries are open from September to end of November 2026, with winners announced in January 2027.
