Botanist Stuart Cameron leaves Bega Valley

Stuart Cameron leading a CMN Coastal Habitats Field Day in Tathra in 2010

Many in the Bega Valley have been lucky enough to attend field days presented by botanist Stuart Cameron or have seen him leading coastal sweeps of the region’s beaches, dunes and headlands as the Coastal Weeds Project Officer for many years. Others have worked alongside him as a founding and long term member of Bermagui Dunecare. Stuart has put enormous skill and energy into rehabilitating the area around Cuttagee Head and his contribution to land management in our region has been significant.

Stuart is also an excellent writer, a considered thinker and has contributed thoughtful articles for CMN newsletters over the years, including “The Pittosporum Problem” which is still a topic that generates much discussion. You can read his article in Issue 24 of the CMN Newsletter here.

Stuart is moving to Narooma and we want to thank him for sharing his knowledge and skills with us and for his long-term stewardship of the land. We wish him well on his new adventure.

Thankfully, Stuart won’t be too far away and is willing to come back to lead future CMN field days. He is also available to undertake individual property vegetation surveys for landholders and can be contacted on dulagarl@gmail.
