Citizen science is alive and well with more than 61,000 people participating in the Aussie backyard bird count this year. This is an increase of more than 19,000 people since last year. People submitted over 45,000 checklists and counted 1.4 million birds, amounting to 583 different species, 20 more than last year’s count.
The Top 10 most counted bird species in Australia remained unchanged for the third year running, with the Rainbow Lorikeet once again claiming the number one spot.
