After three successful BioBlitzes on the Far South Coast, The Atlas of Life in the Coastal Wilderness is organising this year’s BioBlitz in the Wallagoot Catchment on Friday 4th – Saturday 5th December. The basecamp is the Bournda Environmental Education Centre.
For those who haven’t been to a BioBlitz, the aim is to bring together the community, scientists and naturalists to undertake intensive scientific surveys. Significant species lists are created and participants learn lots about the ecology of the area and have fun in the process.
The Wallagoot area is rich in flora and fauna, including several endangered ecological communities: River-flat Eucalypt Forest on Coastal Floodplains, Freshwater Wetlands on Coastal Floodplains, Bangalay Sand Forest, Swamp Oak Floodplain forest and Coastal Saltmarsh.
