Nature Mapping & Monitoring Camera Workshop

Citizen science photoThe CMN is holding a workshop on Wednesday 21 June 2017 from 9.30am-1pm, at the Far South Coast Landcare Office  in Auckland St Bega to teach landholders how to use NatureMapr, an easy-to-use tool for recording and identifying sightings of plants and animals on your property, your landcare site or in the wider landscape. Bring along a couple of photos you have taken of native or exotic plants and animals in the area and you will learn how to upload your first sightings to the database. You will also learn how to explore what other sightings people across the Far South Coast have been recording.

Over time you can build up a picture of all the species on your land and see how things are changing over time. As a citizen scientist, you will also be contributing to a database of all the species in the area, adding to the Atlas of Life in the Coastal Wilderness and the Atlas of Living Australia. All you need to start using NatureMapr is a camera and access to a computer with an internet connection, or you can record sightings in the field using the NatureMapr App on your a smartphone or tablet.

The workshop includes a short field trip and morning tea at the Bega River Reserve to photograph some of the flora and fauna there and upload these sightings on the day.

Olivia Forge, the Potoroo Project Officer will also demonstrate how to set up and use a wildlife monitoring camera and bait station. Cameras are available for landholders to borrow so they can see who is living on their land. Interesting sightings can then be uploaded to NatureMapr.

The workshop is free, with morning tea provided. For bookings email info@fsccmn.com
