National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) staff will host two \u2018open houses\u2019 on Saturday 13 January in Tanja and Wednesday 17\u00a0January in Bermagui for locals and visitors to come and hear more about the Murrah Flora Reserves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Kane Weeks, NPWS South Coast Director said these free sessions will be an opportunity for people to discuss the draft working plan for the reserves as well as local koala conservation projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no need to register, just drop into one of the sessions for a chat or to pick up some more info about the reserves,\u201d Mr Weeks said.<\/p>\n

\u201cResearch indicates that up to 60 koalas live in these reserves and they are the only known population surviving in the coastal forests between Sydney and the Victorian border.<\/p>\n

\u201cKoala conservation projects continue and staff are happy to chat about what we\u2019ve learnt so far and what out next steps are in terms of creating more \u2018koala-friendly\u2019 habitat.<\/p>\n

\u201cManaging fire in the landscape and specifically re-introducing cultural burning into the reserves will also be a focus of discussion at these sessions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe future management of these reserves is presented in our draft working plan and we are encouraging people to have their say before the plan is finalised.<\/p>\n
